That said, it's important to apply your paint carefully. Making mistakes while painting will always affect the final result. Here are a few of the most common ways we've seen paint projects go wrong and some things you can do to correct the problem. 

• Paint on the Windows or Window Frames
  It happens at least once during every painting project: no matter how hard you try to keep all of your paint on the walls, at least some of it will end up on the windows. 
  
  Most of the time, it's better to let spilled paint dry before you remove it. Wet paint can easily smear and become harder to scrape off. Dry paint, on the other hand, should come off relatively easily. Take a small metal scraper or a putty knife and gently pry the paint off the surface. 
  
  
• Running Paint
  If you apply too much paint in one go, you might end up with lines of running paint disrupting your smooth wall. If this paint isn't dry, you can just paint over it to soak up the drips of your brush or ruler. If it's already dry, though, the process is a little more involved. 
  
  Wait until it's dry, then sand down the parts with the most paint build-up. Wipe the wall down to remove any grit or dust, then carefully repaint the wall. Go as slowly as you can manage, taking care to cover each area with just enough paint to create a smooth, solid coat. Watch for drips, and if you spot any, correct them right away before they get the chance to dry. 
  
  
• Blistering Paint
  Paint that is exposed to excess moisture may develop bubbles or blisters under its surface. This problem can be quite subtle if the moisture is minimal, but it tends to get worse over time. Don't ignore it if you spot it!
  
  You'll need to identify the root cause of the blistering before you can fix it. Otherwise, any new paint you apply will just blister again. Look for any water leaks or ventilation problems happening in that area and repair any issues you find. Then, scrape the blistered paint off the wall using a scraper. As long as that part of the wall will not be exposed to any more moisture, you should have no problem repainting it. 
  
  
• Cracked Paint
  Paint that is applied too thinly might develop unsightly cracks when it dries. These cracks change the texture of the wall, so you can't just paint over them.
  
  To get rid of them, you'll need to sand off the rough parts with some sandpaper. Keep going until the surface is mostly smooth again, then lay down a coat of primer. This will seal off any remaining grit and give you a mostly smooth surface to work with when repainting. 
  
  
• Faded Paint
  Exterior paint can sometimes start to look faded over the years. This is because the pigment particles in paint can be damaged by exposure to the sun's UV rays.
  
  You'll need to repaint the affected surface to take care of this problem. Spring is traditionally the time when we do a thorough cleaning of our homes, undertaking tasks that we don't normally include in our cleaning regimen -- such as cleaning the washing machine.

Why does the washing machine need cleaning? After all, it's continuously washing itself with soap and sometimes hot water. Isn't it clean enough? Not really.

Soap leaves scum. Detergent residue can build up. There are also crevices in the washing machine's interior where dampness prevails, and where mold and dirt can take hold. Though you regularly wipe down the washing machine's exterior, and you often give the inner tub a wipe with a sponge, your machine may need a more thorough cleaning.

Front or top load, your washing machine could use a thorough cleaning at least once every year. It wouldn't hurt to clean it more often.

   Depending on the type of washer you have, look at your manual to locate filters and dispensers. If the washer has them, remove them and soak them in a solution of vinegar or bleach and water while you're cleaning the drum.    Mold and mildew can grow behind your front-loading washer's gasket. Clean under the gasket, using hot soapy water and a rag. You may even find one of those socks that went inexplicably missing last time you washed. Among other locations (under the agitator or wash plate, or in the washer's filter), socks are sometimes found under the gasket. 
   
   
3. Wash the Drum 
   Clean a top-loading washer with 4 cups of vinegar and 1 cup baking soda; for a front loader, use 2 cups of vinegar and 1/2 cup baking soda, or some kind of washer cleaner tablets.
   
   To thoroughly clean a top loader, fill it with hot water and add a cup of bleach. Let it sit for an hour, then run a long cleaning cycle. Then run another cycle with vinegar, followed by another hot water cycle to clean it out. Remember the next time you are ready to wash clothes to wash whites first, just in case there are traces of bleach in the machine.
   
   For top loaders, set the control to hot and on the large setting. Once the drum is full, add vinegar and baking soda and turn the washer on full cycle. For a front loader, put vinegar in the dispenser and baking soda in the drum. Set controls at highest heat and largest load and turn it on for the whole cycle.
   
   Once the cycle is over, wipe out the drum with a clean cloth.
   
   
4. Leave the Door Open 
   After cleaning the washer, leave the door open so the machine can air out and dry. Always leave the door open once you've completed a wash cycle, to air out the washer.

Battle the baseboards

Then bring out a sponge and soapy water to wipe away the remaining residue. A bit of elbow grease followed by a clean water rinse should leave your baseboards gleaming once more.

Raid the refrigerator and pantry

It's time to toss out expired condiments, too-old leftovers and stale foods that are taking up space in your fridge and pantry. Go shelf-by-shelf and drawer-by-drawer to toss out outdated items that are taking up space. Wipe down shelves with soapy water to remove sticky or smelly spills.
