Wash your hands – and other hygienic practices

Soap is the very best preventative for communicating the virus - so use it.  Wash your hands regularly, for at least 20 seconds, with soap and water.  If you can't wash your hands, the next best thing is to use an anti-bacterial wipe or gel both before, and after, you come into contact with other people, objects, or surfaces. Try to avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. If you sneeze or cough, do it into a tissue, then throw away the tissue, and then wash your hands or wipe them down.

Keep your distance – even from your agent!

We are all about the practice of "social distancing."

Use video conferencing as much as possible

You, your agent, and anyone else you're working with on your transaction should try to communicate as much as possible by videoconference rather than in-person meetings, just to limit the amount of interaction you have with other people. Facetime, Facebook Messenger, Snapchat video, Skype and Zoom are some of the video tools available to use.

Take precautions on showings and open houses

At this point, we see no reason to discontinue showings, or open houses, so long as you follow fundamental distancing and hygienic protocols. Try to follow these guidelines:

• Again, keep your distance, even if it seems unfriendly
• Remember: No shaking hands when you meet!
• Drive your own car to showings, rather than traveling with the agent in his or her car
• Minimize touching surfaces in houses
• Bring paper towels, tissues, or disposable gloves with you to hold when you open doors or touch surfaces.
• Try to wash, or wipe down, your hands on the way in and the way out.
• At the open house, keep your distance from other visitors and let the hosting agent sign you in, rather than handle a clipboard or tablet.

If you're not feeling well, or are part of the "high-risk" demographic, please stay home

If you're not feeling well with any kind of cough or fever, please stay home. At this point, there is no need to take chances or put others at risk. This is especially true if you are "high-risk" – if you are over the age of 60 or have any pre-existing conditions you should reduce, if not, eliminate all outside contact as much as possible.

The growing Triangle town recently earned a top five spot on WalletHub's list of the Best Places for First-Time Home Buyers ranking fourth out of the 300 cities and towns the personal finance website reviewed.

Compared against 23 key indicators, WalletHub assessed each to determine market attractiveness, affordability, and quality of life. Cary scored well, especially for affordability and real estate market rank, which evaluated market health, share of homes sold annually, building-permit activity, home price appreciation and more. Not surprisingly given its past recognitions as one of the safest places to live in the nation, Cary also snagged fifth place among the cities with the lowest property-crime rate.

"Cary has made its mark on the map as an ideal place to live in the Triangle for first-time buyers, seasoned homeowners and those seeking the perfect place to enjoy retirement," said Beckie Hanley, branch manager of the Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston Cary Office. "With a downtown revitalization plan underway and focused growth to bring in new businesses and support citizens' requests for recreational offerings, the town is poised to be the area's most popular suburb."

The Town of Cary wasn't the only Triangle location on the national list; Raleigh and Durham also made an appearance ranking 23rd and 66th, respectively. However, when reviewed by size, Raleigh took home first place on the large city list, and Durham snagged 22nd position on the mid-sized city compilation.

Safest Cities in the Nation

Cary also snagged a prime position on the National Council for Home Safety and Security's list of the safest cities in the nation coming in 40th out of the top 100 municipalities reviewed based on FBI and local crime reports.

Like SafeWise, the National Council for Home Safety and Security highlighted many of the Raleigh suburb's recreational amenities and activities to demonstrate the numerous opportunities residents have to enjoy healthy and active lifestyles:

Cary is located between Chapel Hill and Raleigh North Carolina with a population of 160,291. This "Bicycle Friendly Community" is located along the U.S. Bicycle Route 1 along with offering mountain biking in Lake Crabtree County Park.
